The 993TT was the most powerful air-cooled production street car ever offered by the factory and they only offered them in 1996 and 1997. Today, they are moving into collector status due to their rarity.
Both model years were pretty much identical except for some small upgrades to the transmission’s mainshaft for improved strength for 1997. These 400BHP cars can be improved in a variety of ways for street use as well as Driver Education events.
Typically, suspension upgrades such as springs, shocks, coilovers, and adjustable anti-roll bars, transform the car for street and track days. Competition requires additional changes to the suspension and chassis.

993TT’s, being the last of the air-cooled, turbocharged cars, represented the final development of the air-c00led 911 and offered several unique features to improve the handling and performance compared to their turbocharged predecessors. These were the first Turbo’s to tame the trailing-throttle oversteer by using a track-correcting, five-link rear axle design. This rear suspension system featured kinematic toe correction to prevent toe-out when the throttle was released and that made these cars much more forgiving than previous cars. The 993TT front suspension was similar to the 964 in design, with some changes to the front hub carriers that reduced weight.
Brakes were one of the issues that Porsche addressed as Turbo’s became heavier and more powerful. 993TT’s had the Big Red calipers and rotors for much improved stopping power and thermal dissipation capacity. Bosch’s 5-channel ABS was the best version to date.
The 3.6 litre engine came with 400BHP and Turbo S cars getting 424BHP with the ability for several upgrades to 430 HP, 480HP, 520HP and beyond using performance software and in some cases, different turbochargers.
