993 1995-1998 911′s are one of the world’s most modifiable cars due to commonality of components during its production and this is one reason why they are so popular. The inherent durability made these the most successful production-based race cars of all time.
One can upgrade the springs, shocks, bushings, anti-roll bars, and rear suspension links, for Driver Education events, or competition without much effort.

993′s, being the last of the air-cooled cars, represented the final development of these cars and offered several unique features to improve the handling and performance compared to their predecessors. These were the first 911′s to tame the trailing-throttle oversteer by using a track-correcting, five-link rear axle design. This rear suspension system featured kinematic toe correction to prevent toe-out when the throttle was released and that made these cars much more forgiving than previous cars. The 993 front suspension was similar to the 964 in design, with some changes to the front hub carriers that reduced weight.
Brakes were one of the issues that Porsche addressed as 911′s became heavier and more powerful. 993′s had larger calipers and rotors than the 964 for improved stopping power and thermal dissipation capacity. The Twin-Turbo had even larger calipers and rotors to match the accelerative potential of these 400+ HP cars. Bosch’s 5-channel ABS was the best version to date.
The 3.6 litre engine was upgraded for more power with the ’95 cars getting 272HP and the ’96-’98 cars getting the Varioram intake system for 282HP. Twin-Turbo’s came with 400HP and the ability for several upgrades to 430 HP, 480HP, 520HP and beyond using performance software and in some cases, different turbochargers.
